Lane Transit District is donating a remnant of the former Santa Clara Elementary School site to a community project that houses veterans.
The transit district bought the property, which is about 8 acres at the corner of River Road and Irving Road/Hunsaker Lane, as the future home for a new River Road transit station.
As part of negotiations, Umqua Bank included as a no-cost add-on a half-acre lot with a home on it located on the southeastern corner of the property. Umpqua ended up with the property after lending money to a previous owner whose plans to develop it fell through.
LTD paid $3,325,000 for the entire property — slightly more than half the current list price of nearly $6 million. The sale closed last week.
