City officials have earmarked $1.2 million in federal funds to convert a vacant lot in the 4th Ward into housing for Paterson’s veterans.

Paterson Housing Authority Director Irma Gorham said she is meeting with the Pennsylvania-based Roizman Development Company to discuss the proposed project, which would be built along Rosa Parks Boulevard between Harrison and Fulton streets.

Gorham said the new proposal stemmed from Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres’ efforts to address homelessness among hire vetsPaterson’s veterans. She said the plan is to provide apartments for veterans and their families using rent subsidies through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The director said the number of apartments has not been determined.
