Warrior In You launches Ruck This City, a military-inspired scavenger race series Veteran-founded endurance race donates a portion of proceeds to Homes For Our Troops
Jersey City, NJ — March 10, 2019 — Warrior In You, an organization that creates challenging adventures inspired by U.S. military training, today launches its Ruck This City event series with its inaugural race in New York City. Ruck This City is a scavenger race that tests participants’ tactical fitness, character, skills, and mental toughness over the course of 12 and 30-mile tactical road march courses.
Ruck This City is founded by James Williams, a former U.S. Army Armor Captain and Bronze Star Medal recipient. After leaving the military in 2010 and spending several years as an operations and logistics executive, Williams realized his dream of sharing the lessons he had learned during military training with civilians through a fitness challenge.
“During my time in the military, I learned that nothing breeds success, builds character and forges deep relationships like sharing a challenging experience with someone,” said Williams. “My hope is that participants can find the warrior in themselves and leverage that experience to confidently surmount future obstacles.”
Warrior In You will donate five percent of proceeds to Homes For Our Troops, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building and donating specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans.
“We are extremely honored and grateful that Warrior In You has selected Homes For Our Troops to benefit from this year’s Ruck This City event,” said Brigadier General, USA (Ret) Tom Landwermeyer, President/CEO of Homes For Our Troops. “Not only will these men and women be testing their physical endurance and mental toughness, but they will be making a bold commitment to ensure that our nation’s severely injured post-9/11 Veterans and their families receive the specially adapted homes they need. Every step taken, and challenge conquered, will help us complete our mission of Building Homes and Rebuilding Lives.”
During each Ruck This City race, participants will be trained and tested on casualty recovery, camouflage, concealment and other functional skills. Veteran guides will accompany participants through the urban course and arm them with the tools to accomplish each challenge.
The 2019 Ruck This City race schedule includes:

About Homes For Our Troops (HFOT): Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide to severely injured post-9/11 Veterans. Most of these Veterans have sustained lifealtering injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).
These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar spent has gone directly to our program services supporting Veterans. For more information, visit
