Imagine being a part of a team that ensures America’s energy – one of its vital resources that helps keep families warm and our communities operating – is not only produced but gets to where it needs to go.

If you’ve ever worn the uniform, you likely know what it’s like to be part of a mission that may not get a ton of fanfare but is critical to the overall success of the country.

In many ways, this is Dominion – one of the nation’s largest producers and transporters of energy. Aside from being responsible for more than 6,000 miles of electrical transmission lines, Dominion operates one of the nation’s largest natural gas storage systems and serves more than 6 million utility and retail energy customers.

Steeped in rich history, dating back to the first years of our nation’s independence – 1787 – a total of 235 companies contributed in some form to Dominion’s corporate ancestry. Among those companies are enterprises as diverse as real estate, horse-shoe manufacturing, water power, ice making, coal mining, railway and ferry service, trolley cars and street lighting.

And much of their success can be attributed to leveraging America’s Greatest Asset – our veterans.

Matt Kellam, a Marine Corps Veteran who now serves as the Military & Recruitment Programs Coordinator for Dominion, has worked boots-on-ground for this leading energy company for more than eight years and knows the impact veterans have on the company’s day-to-day operations and the appreciation leadership has for its veterans and their families.

In Matt’s words, for Dominion, hiring veterans is about hiring some of America’s best to take on a difficult yet important industry.

Those who are looking to transition and still make a difference in their community, Dominion is hiring. And the good news is that on average one in five new hires are veterans.

Matt suggests that those who are looking for a new mission in the energy industry take the time to understand the values and principles the company seeks; Dominion has low turnover and you’ll often find several generations of families that have contributed to Dominion’s success because of the importance and alignment placed on these values.

Being awarded as one of GI Jobs Military Friendly companies only happens because of the team and culture of its employees. So for you job seekers, be willing to learn the culture, be coachable, bring your teamwork mindset and you may just find a new mission at Dominion.

Bottom line: there are opportunities within a number of industries where the experience, skills, and mindset of our veterans and their families is not only appreciated but welcomed.
