The bureaucracy that U.S. veterans continue to face when seeking treatment from the trauma and effects of overseas combat is unbelievable. It makes us wonder if the government truly understands, cares and appreciates the ultimate sacrifice that men and women in uniform render in defending this nation.
Nothing brought this reality more vividly before us than the CNN presidential town hall last week at Fort Lee in Virginia where military families of deceased and wounded soldiers put pointed questions before President Barack Obama.
At the heart of the dialogue with the commander in chief was the question of when the veterans’ well-being will take precedence over the bureaucracy at the Department of Veteran Affairs.
