You deal with that comes up in a manly way and you don’t deal with what might be going on inside,” an Iraq war veteran says in the new documentary “Almost Sunrise,” which comes to Chicago for a screening Sept. 8 at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Director Michael Collins follows two combat veterans from Milwaukee, Tom Voss and Anthony Anderson, who have battled depression and self-destructive thoughts since their return from Iraq. They decide to embark on an epic hike from Wisconsin to California — 2,700 miles in all — to raise awareness about veterans who take their own lives.
