Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder continues to be a problem for many veterans. Many have a difficult time transitioning back to society following deployments, and are later diagnosed with PTSD. The brain condition causes veterans to feel like they are still in combat, and need to protect themselves.
Thursday night in Holyoke, there was a standoff between police and a man who is believed to be an Army veteran. It took nearly six hours to bring the individual into custody, after officers used beanbag rounds. The man had several rifles and allegedly fired several shots. Police say he may have suffered from PTSD.
22News found out that this case is uncommon for veterans, even those diagnosed with the condition.
