A different kind of vehicle is zipping around the parking lot of the new Veterans Affairs clinic in northeast Eugene.
It’s a golf cart driven by a veterans services volunteer who’s offering a ride to anyone who needs a lift.
The cart, and a backup, are the VA’s response to veterans who say they have trouble walking the long distance between the parking lot and the clinic’s front door.
The trek is even farther for veterans walking from the Lane Transit District bus stop on Chad Drive.
“It’s a beautiful place and everybody is happy with it, but don’t be disabled,” Vietnam veteran Frank Blair cautioned.
The parking lot is a sea of blue disabled parking signs — 87 of the lot’s 685 spots are designated for disabled parking. That’s more than the state requires.
