The group Heroes and Horses gave a presentation about their unique way to treat veterans of war to a group of students at Montana State University on Monday.
The executive director, Micah Fink, was in the military for 10 years as a Navy SEAL. He shared about gives him purpose — helping other veterans.
“Veterans are not victims, and I do not believe combat makes you sick, it does not give you a disease. That you go there and you’re fundamentally changed, and the same experience that you think is actually going to make you weak can make you strong,” said Fink.
Fink started the Heroes and Horses program, which uses challenging horse pack trips to teach participants self-reliance, teamwork and perseverance. The program aims to inspire veterans to process and overcome the hardship of war and move toward a purpose-filled life.
Fink said many of the ways veterans are treated now are not helpful.
