The Veterans Assistance Foundation Inc. announced this week that Kwik Trip Inc. has donated many items critical to the organization’s new veterans coffee shop in downtown Tomah.
The items include booths, tables, chairs, coffee makers, counters, glass cases, coolers and much more.
“We are thrilled to partner with Kwik Trip to be able to get our coffee shop up and running sooner than anticipated,” VAF president and CEO Chris Hanson said. “It is outstanding community support like this that will help us realize the goal of a safe, relaxing refuge for our veterans.”
The donated items are in excellent condition and come from Kwik Trip store or Hearty Platter restaurant remodeling projects.
“Once everything is in the building, we will ask for community volunteers to help us build the shelving and set up the adjoining thrift store,” Hanson said. “We will set up specific dates for volunteers to come help.”
Hanson predicts the coffee shop could be operational by sometime this spring, and work is in process for the thrift store to open simultaneously. Both will provide employment training opportunities and employ local veterans in VAF programs, with many having the option of living in the upstairs apartments once they are renovated later in 2016.
