Since opening in 2002, Veterans Thrift Town in Fort Smith has provided support for disabled people in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Veterans Thrift Town is a thrift store that offers a huge variety of secondhand items, all donated by the community. It was created by Muldrow resident James Crabill to raise funds for his nonprofit, United Disabled Americans Inc., which provides numerous services to those who are disabled, particularly veterans, to improve their quality of life.

“We help people with accessibility issues on their homes,” Crabill said. “We’ll counsel people coming back home hire vetsfrom an injury. … That changes your whole world. All of a sudden, you can’t get your wheelchair through your doors, you can’t get up on the porch and into the house. … You can’t get in the bathroom all of a sudden, just all kinds of issues show up, and that’s where we come in. We can go out and assess their homes and see what we can do to help and maybe direct them some place to make sure they’re getting the help they need.”
