Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s budget proposal will include nearly $13 million to provide services to the state’s 800,000 veterans, including the creation of the nation’s first pilot program to allow former military combat medics and corpsmen to work in health care while they earn civilian credentials.
McAuliffe unveiled the veterans portion of his biennial budget proposal during a Friday news conference at Tidewater Community College.
McAuliffe’s full proposal won’t be revealed until Thursday, although he said it will focus on K-12 education, economic development and veterans.
“We owe these men and women who have served in active duty and now call Virginia their home,” McAuliffe said. “It’s important to keep everybody here.”
