During a Thursday meeting before the Planning and Economic Development subcommittee, representatives from the veterans center outlined potential plans for the foundation-owned piece of land where Grand River Avenue, West Forest Avenue and 14th Street Intersect.
The vets sold their current location in Cass Corridor where it will be replaced by development on the $627-million Detroit Events Center for $2.8 million. They don’t have long to find a new home. The arena will open by the start of the 2017 NHL season.
News circulated midweek that some in the Woodbridge neighborhood don’t like the design of the proposed building.
At Thursday’s meeting, Tyrone Chatman, executive director of the Michigan Veterans Foundation, said the veterans group will be an asset to the community.
