“I’ve had three marines over the course of my ten years in the Marine Corps actually commit suicide,” said veteran Lucio Rodriguez. Rodriguez lost a fellow marine that was like a brother to him while he was deployed.
“We were about to leave Okinawa, and that day that we were getting on the plane he actually hung himself in his room,” Rodriguez said. “I just didn’t believe it. So when I came back, we did our roll calls and everything and he didn’t come in. That’s when it really set in, he’s not here anymore.”
Suicide has touched most military members in one way or another.
