Tucked away in Whitefish, in a cabin in the woods, sits Glacier Hope Homes a new nonprofit program offering struggling veterans full-service support with housing, access to jobs, education and therapy.
It’s a lifeline for veterans like Shane Sheppard because without it he’d be homeless.
Sheppard describes life after he was discharged from the Army in 2002 as “nomadic.” He says he’s not the only one to experience this.
“Northwest Montana has the largest population of homeless veterans, and it’s growing every day,” said Sheppard.
He is now employed at Glacier Hope Homes, which has a staff made up of mostly veterans. The environment that creates is beneficial.
“It’s veterans helping veterans,” explained Sheppard.
