Apparently the founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America had the right idea last year after Congress passed a $16.3 billion allocation to improve medical services for veterans.
Passage of the bill was “not a silver bullet, but rather it is only a Band-Aid, and one that will soon fall off,” said Paul Rieckhoff of the veterans group.
Department of Veterans Affairs officials now are saying they need $2.5 billion more from Congress, and if they don’t get it, that could result in closing of some VA medical facilities as early as next month.
While such threats during budget discussions are typical at all levels of government, we think they are a disservice to the veterans who need the best medical services that they can receive.
