California Water Restriction – Could Have Been Prevented

Droughts don’t happen overnight, I know this because I’m from Crimea, a place that has this very same problem. I experienced firsthand what it’s like to have no water for days. That’s why I would like to say the following, directly to the government of California (which is acting like this drought is a big surprise that no one saw coming):

If you govern an area that naturally has a very warm and dry climate allowing such things to happen is simply criminal. Let me tell you a “secret” that every scientist knows – one of the main purposes of science is to predict. With this in mind, we should believe that the “hottest” state with possibly the largest population of scientists, and the first in line to suffer from Global Warming could not predict the drought…. Unlikely!

The state and federal governments must have long known that droughts are worsening in the entire region but they couldn’t and still can’t do anything because they don’t have the budget. In fact, when it comes to major infrastructure and development projects, no State does. Since the 1980s, with the help of multinational corporations, the American leadership have steered the country from being a nation of developers towards a nation of users. This means the government has very little money to spend on municipal non-profit projects, that are so essential for the civilization and progress.

What am I proposing? Three words: Water Desalination Plants. Global Warming is happening. Drought is here to stay and will only get worse. Considering it’s only Spring now, every local municipality and its residents must ask themselves – what happens when the Summer comes to the sunny California? The only reasonable answer to this questions is – more drought! And as the Global Warming worsens even more severe conditions are in store for this region. In my opinion water desalination plants are the only viable long-lasting solution to counter this statewide threat.

Fortunately, California has everything to build such facilities.
– It has access to the Pacific Ocean.
– It has a lot of sunlight all year long which means abundance of solar energy.
– Above all it has a large population of highly skilled people that are ready to work!

So what do you say California? Let’s put the two and two together, set profit and corporate interests aside, and make things happen!
