* The decision to allow women to fight in combat might lead to them being drafted. Or at least force them to register for national service.

Currently only men between age 18 and 25 are compelled to register for a military draft.

* TRICARE has a new online tool that allows retirees to determine if they’ll be forced to switch their health coverage.

Changes to TRICARE starting Oct. 1 will impact an estimated 171,000 people.

Of the three TRICARE regions, the South will be hit the hardest as the government rolls back the managed care network.

* More than 4,000 enlisted airmen could see pink slips in a drawdown program aimed at separating selected airmen in grades E-8 and below.

* NATO is considering footing the bill for 352,000 Afghan security personnel through 2018.

Last May, it agreed to pay for a force of about 230,000. Whatever the final size, it will cost NATO countries billions of dollars each year.
